We started entering races a number of years ago but in 2015 we hosted our very own regional marathon race. This was held on the Gloucester Sharpness canal. It was a resounding success with around 150 paddlers from far and near. This has continued annually and is now one of the South West Regions premier racing events. We welcome paddlers from all over the region (and beyond).
Following our successes, we have launched our Tewkesbury Hasler in 2019. Taking place along the River Severn starting just below the weir at Lower Lode. Our thanks to Cheltenham College Rowing Club for the use of their boathouse as the base. It was a resounding success with nearly 200 entries. It was a very popular location and fingers crossed we may be able to use this site for a national finals of some sort in the future.
The club has a selection of specialist boats available for members to use; from the very stable to the positively ‘tippy’. We hope to cater for all as we expand our expertise in this area..
Our base at the Gloucester Boathouse complex has helped significantly in our rapid rise to one of the best clubs in the South West region, which we won in 2022 . Gloucester Canoe Club reached the Hasler Finals in every year since 2016 and, for a new club, this is outstanding. The base provides us with excellent resources to train for and run such events. We run fitness and coaching sessions for our members throughout the year.
Marathon Training happens on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm throughout the year. Lights are required in the winter months. We also train on Sunday mornings when there are no regional or national races. We have also set a date for the next Canoe Marathons, check the calendar
