Did you know there are 2 million fewer women than men regularly participating in sport and exercise in the UK? Yet, a huge opportunity awaits—13 million women have expressed interest in becoming more active, including 6 million who aren’t currently participating in any physical activity. The #ShePaddles movement is here to change that, working to bridge the gap in paddlesport participation by breaking down barriers and creating inviting, tailored opportunities for women and girls to get involved.
At Gloucester Canoe Club, we’re passionate about empowering women and girls to join the paddlesport community, no matter which discipline excites you—whitewater, touring, or marathon kayaking. Over 30% of our membership is female. With a supportive environment and a team of experienced female coaches and paddlers, we’ll help you build your skills and confidence from day one.
Our Introduction Programme (dates for 2025 coming soon!) typically runs in the spring and early summer, providing you with all the essential paddling techniques to get started. From there, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to grow and explore, whether you’re looking for leisurely trips or more adventurous challenges. Whatever your age or interests, we’ve got something for everyone.
With great facilities at The Boathouse and thoughtful planning for all offsite activities, your needs will always be met. Plus, you’ll have access to our friendly Club Welfare Officers—both male and female—for additional support.
To join us, you’ll need to be at least 11 years old, able to swim 50 meters unaided, and minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Whether you’re looking to de-stress from exams or work, get active, make new friends, or simply enjoy nature, paddling offers a fun, inclusive space where you can be yourself.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our paddling family! For any questions or to learn more, get in touch using the link below.
